A YOMAC GUIDE TO BLOGGING
What to blog about…
YOMAC projects
- Climate Change/Green events in your local area
- Facilities (such as recycling bin etc) in your local area
- Youth groups in your local area
- YOMAC ressies, both @ the event, and retrospectively - how did you find it?
- Steering Group meetings & regional meetings
- New stories: either local, national or global
- Environments of scale: are all countries equal in the 'carbon market'
- Organisations in your community - such as schools, universities
- Collaborative work and other events.
What you should and shouldn’t include…
- Limit your blog to between 500 and 750 words...this helps to keep the reader interested.
- Try not to overload the blog with facts, too many facts and the reader (unless they are mega intelligent) will not be able to understand.
- References are good, links to websites/other blogs allow the reader to find out even more interesting stuff about the blog subject!
- Who are the target audience of the website? Try to make it relevant an interesting to those who are likely to read it.
- Make the blog flow; don’t keep jumping back to points made right at the start of the blog. Make sure the blog has a beginning/introduction, where you describe what you plan to talk about in your blog, a middle, where you describe/explain the subject of your blog, and an ending, where the subject should be concluded, and any opinions should be stated.
Some ideas on to write your blogs on…
- What happens/happened at the summer residential at Gibside?
- Current affairs: what’s in the news that catches your eye?
- Transport: Which type is better for the environment? What is public transport like in your region?
- Food: How much local food do you buy? How many local food shops are there in your local area?
- Waste: such as recycling, landfill etc.
- Green events: such as your regional project, or any events you have attended.
- And anything else that takes your interest…as long as it’s GREEN!
